Camille Turner, Worthy, 2026. Immersive video installation. Filmed and edited by Davis Heslep and composed by Ravi Naimpally.

Worthy

Worthy is an immersive video installation narrated by the artist’s father, Lloyd Turner, who was born in Worthy Park, a former Jamaican slave plantation. The work traces his childhood on the estate and the 1945 eviction of his family and other descendants of enslaved people from the land they rented from the estate following emancipation. Both a deeply personal story and a meditation on the one family’s resilience and enduring legacies of colonialism, Worthy explores how histories of dispossession continue to shape the present. Today, Worthy Park Estate is one of the most prominent rum distilleries in Jamaica.

Worthy was commissioned by the Art Gallery of Hamilton and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
